Who Qualifies?


It is important to remember that bariatric surgery is not for everyone. The patient will need to have at least a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or more or a BMI of 35 plus a serious health problem such as high blood pressure. The patient will also have to be healthy enough to have surgery and will possibly be required to have a psychological evaluation. The patient’s physician may want to be sure that they have tried to loose weight by other means by suggesting they try alternative methods to the surgery before make a final decision.

18.5 - 24.9 Normal
25.0 - 29.9 Overweight
30.0 and Above Obese
