Post-op Care:


You must keep your appointments:
  • First year - every 2 months
  • Second year - every 4 months
  • Third year and remaining life time - twice a year for blood work to monitor protein and vitamins


Problems: Dr. Carter must be notified if any of the following occurs:
  • Any perceived excess weight loss.
  • Any vomiting that lasts more than one day.
  • If you are unable to tolerate any suggested food or medicines or vitamins.
  • If you are unable to afford to buy medicines, diet and exercise equipment needed. You may not be able to afford the after-operation costs.
  • Any acute or severe pain with or without eating.
  • Any chronic tiredness.
  • If your friends or other doctors are telling you things opposite of what Dr. Carter is telling you.
  • If you don't know what foods give you starches, protein or fat.
  • Pain, vomiting, diarrhea or weak feeling after any foods.
  • If you hair continues to come out.
  • If you are not losing weight as you think you should.
  • If you are considering getting pregnant.
  • Any increase in bone, joint or muscle pain.
  • Any psychological problems, family problems, and inability to cope.
  • Excessive flatus and odor.
  • Dizziness with movement.
  • Any wrong eating habits.
  • If you use illegal drugs.
  • If you stopped taking vitamins.
  • If you have started smoking.
