About the Doctor:Paul M. Carter, MD
A native of Hickory, North Carolina, Dr. Paul Carter, a physician and surgeon, has been providing medical and surgical care to the citizens of North Carolina since 1976. Dr. Carter received his Medical Degree from the Howard University College of Medicine in
1969. His internship and general surgical residency were completed at Freedmen’s Hospital in Washington DC. Before entering private practice Dr. Carter served as an instructor of surgery at the Howard University Hospital for one year. Dr Carter has been in private surgical practice since 1975. Initially he began his practice in Baltimore, Maryland and in 1976 he relocated to Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he currently resides. Dr. Carter has admitting privileges at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and High Smith – Rainey Memorial Hospital in General, Thoracic, Vascular, Pediatric, and Laser Surgery.
Dr. Carter has received numerous awards for his outstanding commitment to the medical profession as well as the community. Some awards include Doctor of the Year Award from the Old North Medical Society, Outstanding Residence Award for Excellence in Surgery Awarded by former Interns and Residents of Howard University College of Medicine, and Outstanding Chief Resident at Howard University Hospital. He is also a prominent member of several medical organizations including the National Medical Association, American Society for Bariatric Surgery, Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, former Chief of Surgery at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Executive Council member of the Old North State Medical Society, and North Carolina Medical Society. Dr. Carter has continued to follow up on his medical education by participation in postgraduate studies. His most current postgraduate studies include:
